National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC): Guiding the Way to Higher Education

The National Association for College Admissions Counseling, also known to higher education industry insiders as NACAC, is a member-directed organization comprised of 10,000+ professionals committing to assisting students with their pursuit of postsecondary education. According to NACAC.com, the organization has focused on "maintaining high standards that foster ethical and social responsibility" for more than 70 years. Through its governing body, which consists of an Assembly of delegates and an elected Board of Directors, NACAC works to develop college admission policies that uphold a high standard of integrity. Assisting students with their postsecondary decisions is of utmost importance to NACAC and is its paramount mission.

The membership within NACAC is quite diverse, from secondary school and independent counselors, to college admission and financial aid officers, enrollment managers, and organizations. NACAC's members are based both nationally and internationally, and each shares the same driving goal: to guide students through the secondary-to-higher-education transition process. In support of that ideal, NACAC also represents tens of thousands of students and parents.

Each year, NACAC hosts a national conference, which provides members with an opportunity to learn and enhance their skills as admissions professionals as well as organize networking opportunities among education, admission, and enrollment management colleagues and peers. Additionally, NACAC keeps its members up to date on admissions trends, strategies, and current issues producing the Journal of College Admission, a quarterly scholarly journal, and the NACAC Bulletin, an online newsletter found at NACAC.com.
In order to further assure that the needs of students are being effectively met by professionals within the admission field, NACAC produces the Guide to the College Admission Process and Guiding the Way to Higher Education: Families, Counselors and Communities Together. Also free to students and parents via NACAC.com is the organization's online newsletter, Steps to College.

One of NACAC's high-profile services is its sponsorship of NACAC's National College Fairs and NACAC's Performing and Visual Arts College Fairs, which present nationwide, in-person recruitment and marketing opportunities for colleges, universities, and education officials, while also affording students with access to college, university, and other representatives who can answer their admission-related questions, provide more insight on schools, financial aid, etc.
